CLOCK SOURCES
The clock source used to drive SuperSpeed USB transceivers can be a crystal, oscillator, or external reference clock. Avnet Abacus can advise on how to comply with the standards, including the source’s clock rate, jitter, voltage level, and termination.
Of particular interest to USB 3.0 designs, Fox Electronics has introduced XpressO - a completely new patented oscillator technology based on a proprietary silicon architecture rather than the traditional piezo technology. XpressO based designs provide enhanced low jitter, low noise performance, with a choice of LVDS, HCMOS or LVPECL versions for 2V5 or 3V3 supply voltages. Preconfigured, off-the-shelf, to precise industry standards, these devices are lower in cost than conventional oscillators and available on dramatically shorter lead times. Further options for crystals and oscillators are available from AVX-KYOCERA
as well.
